From Tammuz 17th (which is July 9th this year )until the 9th of AV (which is July 30th this year) is a 3 week period the Israeli’s know as the Dire Straights. There was a solar eclipse last year, this year, and there will be one next year all falling on the 1st of Av. (July 22 this year) All 3 of these solar eclipses fall on the 1st of AV, 14 days into the dire straights.  The 1st of Av is the day the Jews become very serious about their fasting and mourning. Here is a short synapse of the past things that happened on the 9th of AV.

1. 12 spies returned with bad report, Israel had to continue in the wilderness til that generation was fulfilled.

2. 1st temple destroyed, Babylonian captivity for 70 years.

3. 2nd temple destroyed, diaspora of the Jews,

4. temple razed in 70 CE

5. Bar Kobba’s revolt against Rome failed, 1000’s of Jews died.

6. Jews expelled from England in 1290.

7. Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 (on the 7th of Av)

8.1942 Mass deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghettos and Hitlers final solution was implemented.

It seems  uncanny for so much to happen on this date.
There were also 5 tragedies that happened on Tammuz 17th,( the day that begins the dire straights). I will mention one.

It was the day Moses came down from Mt Sinai and broke the tablets of the 10 commandments.
